Quidditch tomorrow

We've got one more session before our match next week, so let's make it count. Crabbe, Goyle, make sure those plays are memorised so we can drill them without your having to double-check the playbook like last time. Donovan, I've noticed you taking advantage of free flying on Saturdays, and it's really paying off. Keep it up.

Just a reminder, our Defence revision group is meeting after lunch tomorrow for anyone who's interested.

And while I'm thinking about it, Justin, Ron, you up for poker tomorrow night? Blaise, you game?

How is the revision group going? Any topic that kids seem to be struggling with, or anyone who needs special attention?

How is this contest report going? It seems less easy to judge what they want from this one.

A few of the 5ths are still weirded out by what it was like with the Dementor, and are spending way too much time on their Patronuses. I think they're over thinking it. Everyone is getting pretty good at disarming, though. Sandoval, Warrington, and Ginny Weasley did particularly well.

There weren't that many 6ths. The usual crowd, though. They're doing pretty well, but you can tell this contest is making everyone more on edge than they usually are.

And when it comes to the report, yeah, it's hard to sort things out.

They don't tell me anything about how they decide who did best, or what everyone's standing is, or even if they're keeping a score or anything. For all I know, they already have sorted out who is going up at the end of the term, and they're just making everyone run through their paces.

Me included.

And just because some people are doing well doesn't mean they're cut out for council.

I'm guessing that they are interested in how the candidates bend those of lesser status to their will. It is why I said this one is hard to judge.

Mulicber, Dolohov and Rod all have very different methods of encouraging people to follow their lead and they all have their use and place. It is interesting information.

Not sure. I think it's less that they're worried about OWLs and more that facing the Dementor was a lot harder than they thought it was going to be.

I know many brilliant witches and wizards who I would never wish on Council. They may be pillars of the community, brilliant in their field, leading lights of society, but completely unsuited to the Council. They just don't have the mettle. It's why I don't understand

These contests haven't come close to testing that mettle. What would this lot have done if tossed into Ireland or Leicester?

It's not like the people who are in it have much of a choice. Regardless of how unsuited they are.

If the next challenge is that they need to kill someone, or hurt someone badly, it's not like they can just up and quit, you know?

Has anyone been offered a position on the Council and turned it down?

Not everyone has it. And you're right not everyone should. That's exactly the point.
