The Order of the Phoenix
May. 12th, 2015 11:31 pmMy name is Harry Potter, and I am a member of the Order of the Phoenix.
I grew up in Buckingham. I was raised by the Lord Protector. I was taught the doctrines of blood purity and told that I was chosen because I was special.
When I was six years old, Draco Malfoy and I got into trouble. We went somewhere we weren't supposed to go and got caught. To punish us -- to punish me -- the Lord Protector ordered Draco's father to cruciate him in front of me. And that was how it worked, if I did something wrong. Draco was always the one punished.
What sort of monster would order a six-year-old child punished with unbearable torture? Would force the child's own father to do it? To punish not that child, but his best friend? I was taught not to ask those sorts of questions.
Draco and I started asking questions together, a few years ago. Questions like, why does everyone pretend that I am not a half-blood, when blood purity is supposed to matter above all else? Why are muggleborns not allowed to have wands or use the magic that is their birthright, even though Hermione Granger is one of the most brilliant witches I've ever known? If things are so lovely here in the Protectorate, why are we not allowed to leave?
We asked questions. We started trading owls with Sirius, and with Severus Snape. And we opened our eyes.
And I want everyone to know:
I am a member of the Order of the Phoenix. And my magic and my life will be spent in service to freedom and equality.
Will you join me?
