The St Mungo's Ball was fun. I wonder what the theme will be next year?

It's been a pretty nice break from classes. A couple of members of the Distance Flying Club got together today for a few hours, and that went well even though it was pretty cold out. And it's been good spending time with people. I hope everyone else's hols went well too.

Mrs L, I'll send along the maps. Ron, would you still be up for something on Saturday? I might be able to get away if it's just a flying thing, and I think it'd be good if we could get some more ground covered.

So I guess we should probably say something to Colin? I knew he was our age, but he just sort of got in right when Jeremy did and a lot's been going on. We probably should've said something sooner. Because he doesn't think he ought to even read our stuff. Sally-Anne said she thought it was fine, and I think so too, but is everyone else okay with it?

I mean, he can't use the lock, obviously, but neither can Justin or Hermione.

Of course, that's quite all right by me.

I've noticed he doesn't talk much on his own at all, and maybe this will help? I know how takes his work with dad very seriously, but he still ought to feel free to talk to us, and he is a member of the Order too.

I'm fine with it, Harry.

I think it would be wonderful to include Colin. Yes, please.

Hey, Terry, can you pass along some of the ink to Colin next time you go to Moddey, and tell him how to use it for the lock so we can test it out?

And you could tell him about the secret too. For tradition. You know.

I can certainly do that. I'll be there the night after tomorrow; we go back for dinner at Moddey Dhoo on Sundays.

It'll be a bit...bittersweet is the word, I guess. I'm going off the I Solemnly Swear lock myself in about two weeks.

Oh, yeah, that's right. This is the year for most of us, I guess.

At least we've got the Order lock. I know it's not the same, though.

I don't know if he can or not, cause he's using Mr Longbottom's journal. But at least he can write on the ISS business stuff and know it's okay.

I just wrote everyone else about Colin. Because he thinks he shouldn't even read our stuff, and we probably should've said something sooner to make sure he knew it was okay. Does that sound all right to you?

Absolutely, he ought to feel free. I told Sally-Anne as much, the other night, what.

Was it you sent the Galleon about books? I say, jolly good show.

How did flying go? Did the advice about straight lines help at all?

Yeah, it totally did. We went down to Dover and flew around there, because that's the new one and we figured it'd be good to get some information on it, and you're right, it was straight as an arrow. We flew east, towards Dover, and after we followed it to the coast, it went way out over the water, so we stopped and flew back the other way to make sure it was in the same heading on the other side, and it was. We didn't run into any weird spots, though.

Mr Pontner specifically mentioned the trouble centring where the 'lines cross' so I'd wager the Dover one must not have any points of intersection nearby, what.

I say, what we really need is to start at one, and simply stick with it as far as ever it can take us.

If I were planting a stone to focus a line, and those lines interconnect to create a straight-edged circle, what, I should think I'd want to put them as close to the edge of the land as possible.

I wonder.... What might happen if one group went to Walsingham and followed it southeast and the other group went to Dover and followed it east?

We'd have to be careful, because it'd be mostly over water, and if stuff gets weird where they cross, it might be dangerous. But I bet we could plot out where it ought to be based on where the angles intersect, so we'd be prepared.

That'd be something to do on Saturday, maybe.

I figured we ought to say something in enough time so people could think about what to bring. And it takes such a long time to read stuff out loud, I thought it'd be good to trade books too.

I definitely want to read that one about the dragon.

We've been talking as a group, and, well, first off, I'm sorry for not saying anything right from the start, so you'd know you could join in if you wanted. We want you to consider yourself part of the Institute. I know you won't be able post on the lock, because you use Mr Longbottom's journal to write in, but we don't use it that much any more, and when we do, we try to let the people who can't read it know what's going on.

And I know this whole thing is sort of weird, because your job is to write in Mr Longbottom's journal for him, but you're a member of the Order, just like us, and if you have an idea or an opinion or something, that's what this is for.

Anyways. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. And feel free to poke your nose in whenever you feel like it, yeah? I mean, I know you've got a job to do and all, and it's an important one, but letting us know what you think about stuff is important too.

Honestly, I didn't think writing Luna like that would raise a fuss. It wasn't my intention at all. It's just hard to know where one's place is in all of this sometimes.

I've been reading the Order's back entries at night -- Mr Longbottom lets me take the journal with me when he's off for the day, because they've got Mrs Longbottom's journal if something happens, but I can only get in an hour or so of reading a night because I've got my studies to keep up with too. It's damn impressive reading, though. And from what I've read and what Sarah and Terry have told me about you lot at Hogwarts, well, I have a great deal of respect for what you've done.

In other words, thanks for the invite, and I'd be honoured to be considered part of the Institute.)
